Size Guide - Necklaces
Necklaces vary by length. The circumference of your neck will impact how your necklace looks on its own or layered up with other necklaces. The lengths of our necklaces are given in inches. Check out our necklace length guide below:
For her
The average neck size for woman is 13.5 inches. Bear this in mind when you’re shopping for women’s necklaces as this will give you a good idea of where different necklaces will sit on the body.
- 16” necklace typically sits just above the collarbone, at the base of the neck, peeking out just above a shirt collar.
- 18” necklace typically sits on the collarbone. This is the most common length for women's necklaces.
- 20” necklace typically sits just below the collarbone.
- 22” necklace typically sits just above the top of the bust line.
- 24” necklace typically sits in the middle of the bust line.
For him
The average neck size for men is 16 inches. Bear this in mind when you’re shopping for men's necklaces as this will give you a good idea of where different necklaces will sit on the body.
- 18” necklace is the best length to go for if you have a smaller-than-average neck, where it typically sits at the base of the neck.
- 20” necklace is the most common length for men, sitting on the collarbone of the average-sized man.
- 22” necklace is a good necklace size for a man with a larger neck. It typically sits just below the collarbone on a man with a 17.5” collar. This also fits if a man with an average-sized neck who want a slightly longer necklace.
- 24” necklace typically sits just above the sternum.
- 30” necklace typically sits mid-chest.
How to measure
2) You have a necklace which fits you well, but you don't know its length. Place your open necklace on a flat surface in a straight line. Measure from the outer edge of the clasp to the other end of the necklace with a ruler or measuring tape, using the inch edge of a ruler (see graphic below). Note down the length.
1. Measure and cut a piece of string to the same length as the necklace you desire.
2. Place it around your neck to see where it falls.
3. Repeat the process to see how necklaces of different lengths may look together.
